Cebu South Sidetrip: Aguinid Falls

Aguinid falls

My second day was spent chasing waterfalls and visiting an island down south. I told myself to wake up early, even I was up till 2am binge watching over “Black Orphan” on iFlix. (Check out what’s new on iFlix)

After having breakfast, I was introduced to Kuya Rey, a former Manilenio who lives in Q.C. before but later decided to stay in Oslob for his family.  He will be my tour guide and service for the whole day.

First Destination: Aguinid Falls

Aguinid Falls in Cebu Philippines

Aguinid Falls is a newest destination here in Cebu South. It was open just a year ago and has become an interesting destination to tourist for having five waterfall stations in one-tourist spot. Each level got different feels making Aguinid falls a must visit down South Cebu.

From my place, the habal-habal ride took us an hour before arriving at Aguinid in Samboan side of Cebu. We took the shortcut, according to Kuya Rey, passing mountains and hilly roads crossing most part of Cebu South. I love how cold it is up in the mountain and it’s just nice to get a chance to view Cebu at the top.

An entrance fee of Php 20 is needed to be paid at Aguinid and each group will be given two local tour guides who will assist and share information about the place. And because I was alone in this trip, I felt like a rich kid having bodyguards along the way. Asking why they still need to give me two even for me, one would be enough, I was told that opening Aguinid falls gave them an opportunity to earn. Everyday, more than 180 tour guides are waiting for their turn and most of them only got to work or guide once per day. Making what you would give their daily earnings. So when you visit, think about it and maybe you’ll be good to give an extra.

The first level was a bit shallow but the man-made bridge is quite a view. The second level looks like a small lagoon, it’s almost 4 feet deep and it’s nice to stay here for a while. I was thinking to do some dipping already but hesitated and decided to check first all the  waterfalls before deciding where to swim. Going to the third level is a bit difficult passing an almost 75 degree slippery rock. A rope was placed in it to help people who are passing the area. It’s easier to climb this barefooted.

The third level is a series of water terraces with an almost 10 feet rock formation at the end.

The fourth is a bit deeper, and I think most of the tourist swims here. It looks a little muddy thou, maybe because a lot of people likes to stay here.

The fifth level was satisfying, it’s the last stop of the trek and I was told that if ever I wanted to do level six on wards, I would need to pay an additional amount for the service. I opted not to continue and decided to stay here at the fifth level and swim. The water was cold and fresh. The locals already mastered the spot where tourist could possibly do some photo-shoots to make the view grander. Here are some of the photos I got.

OSLOB ITINERARY AND EXPENSES (5 of 12)

It was an easy trek that took me just an hour, that includes a quick swim and photo-shoot in some of the areas. There are also changing rooms and bathrooms available back at the base too. I just brought a few pieces thinking the clothes I wore would dried up once I ride the habal-habal going to my next destination. Which it did.

Ten in the morning and we are done at Aguinid falls, and ready to visit my next destination. From Samboan, we went straight to Blue Water Sumilon Island Resort Pavilion which is 30-minute habal-habal ride from Samboan.
