Why Consider The HUAWEI MATEBOOK 13 to be your Next Laptop

HUAWEI MATEBOOK 13 2020

As technology progresses a lot of laptop brands are releasing new ideas on what they can offer in the market. But as I research along with the many choices available, I always fall down to these three capabilities; Portability, Fast Processor & memory, and good graphic card. Add to that the many unique factors that make a unit exceptionally better than the rest. Another consideration would be the price range. Is it worth the price? Or affordably suited to its specifications? Let’s go down to it.

Let’s consider this new offering from Huawei – The HUAWEI Matebook 13. Released the early part of 2020 here in the Philippines, the Huawei Matebook 13 is actually an iteration of the 2019 version. Though as I researched about it the difference between both versions is indistinct.

Is it Portable?

Definitely, the Huawei Matebook is a 13-inch ultra-portable device under the all-rounder MateBook Series. It features a metallic, and minimalist design with smooth curved edges with aluminum chambers cut with CNC diamond cutting. Weighing for about 1.3kg (286 x 211 x 14.9mm) the HUAWEI Matebook 13 is such an ideal notebook for users who are always on the go.

I personally love that it fits on most of my bags. And because my work requires me to go online most of the time having a portable device suite me best. On paper, Matebook can run for around 11 hours of use much better compared to its predecessor.  But of course, the more strenuous work you do the easier for it to drain. Using the Matebook for Youtube Videos or working via Microsoft could max the battery for about 7-8hours while Editing photos or videos which are both CPU-intensive tasks can make the battery life shorter.

Actually, it’s a bit understandable having a small build, good thing it comes with a small charger, hence portability wouldn’t be a problem.

Actually, I got this funny moment that I thought the unit I got was not functioning well because it wasn’t opening or even charging. To my surprise, after scrutinizing the unit, I found out that only the port on the left side can be used to charge the unit. While the other port is allocated for your hard disk or other devices.

Fast Processor and Memory

In terms of performance, the top-end HUAWEI MateBook 13 is powered by the 10th Generation Intel® Core™ processor and is equipped with up to 16 GB dual-channel RAM.  It also has a high-speed PCIe SSD, allowing us to do more in a much shorter time frame.  Video editing is my profession, hence having a fast unit to use for the job is a must. HUAWEI MateBook 13 just fits into what I needed. Though as expected heavy graphics or video layering slows the unit.

HUAWEI MateBook 13 adopts the HUAWEI Shark Fin Design 2.0 for its cooling system. Inspired by its namesake, the solution uses high-speed fans to generate a high airflow for maximum thermal performance. In addition, the Intelligent Filtering solution monitors temperature change in real-time and ensures stable performance. Furthermore, the system provides maximum cooling performance with no worry about noise.

The Ultra-Slim FullView Screen

Who wouldn’t love to watch a movie on a high-resolution screen? The HUAWEI MateBook 13 features a 2K display (2160×1440 at 200ppi) with a contrast ratio of 1000:1 and supports 100 percent of the RGB color gamut. It can display vivid details for users when viewing HD pictures or playing Blu-Ray discs and is more than capable of displaying images and videos with speed and accuracy. And because I love watching movies, this suits my kind of lifestyle.

Aside from that, the 2K HUAWEI FullView Display is also a touchscreen. It is very responsive that felt like you were touching a phone. To make the experience even better the near bezel-less sides allows better viewing with its 88 percent screen to body ratio.

The HUAWEI MateBook 13 packs up to NVIDIA® GeForce® MX 250 with 2GB of GDDR5. This GPU provides all the graphics processing power to support image and video editing tasks, as well as entertainment experiences.

Excellent User Experience

Okay, so here comes another reason why I would want to buy a certain laptop, the other (tons) of an added feature. Laptops nowadays are becoming more and more intelligent and efficient giving us what we truly need adjusting to our kind of lifestyle. First of the many that the HUAWEI Matebook 13 has is the use of the Multi-screen Collaboration

This makes my life easier being such a heavy user of smartphones sending files to and from the laptop can be more accessible. Aside from that, with this function, I can use my mouse or even my keyboard to access my phone screen. So just think it as an extension of your laptop screen.

The HUAWEI MateBook 13 also features the Fingerprint Power Button that integrates power, fingerprint verification, and system sign-in into one button. This Fingerprint Power Button allows users to quickly wake up their PC and resume work without having to first re-enter their password or rescan their finger.

Another thing that I truly appreciate with this unit is the inclusion of the 65 W Type-C portable adapter which can be used with a range of charging outputs. I can even use the power adapter of the HUAWEI SuperCharge, for certain phone units. You know we love quick charging, especially whenever we are outside or on the go.

Though being a heavy user of any gadget, I find ports to be lacking. Allowing minimalist design and positioning, the Matebook 13 only consists of three ports in total: the power port and 3.5mm jack on the left side and another USB-C Slot on the right. It’s a bit of a hassle especially if I would need to bring an extra adapter during my travels. But nevertheless, design-wise, less makes it more premium looking.

All in all, the HUAWEI MATEBOOK 13 is a very good choice for people looking for a unit under Php 80,000. It is also very suited for people who are always on the go, for travelers who love to create content on the road or even individuals who enjoy mixing work and leisure.
