Is Asylum Manila really worth it for Php 699?

Asylum Manila Horror House

Asylum Manila broke our newsfeeds and timelines just recently featuring images that are creepy enough to make our senses both afraid and curious. We may already be too familiar with the idea of a horror house, but Asylum Manila still manages to freak out each of the individuals trying the newest attraction.

From its recent opening, people have already been raving about the place. Patiently waiting the long line just to be able to experience the scare tactics. For the price of almost Php 700 per entry, one who haven’t really tried it yet would question, “Is Asylum Manila really worth its current price? Will this be just another fad to talk about? Will it really scare the shit out of its audience?

But before we go deep into the dark, specially for those who still asking what is this all about, let me first give you an idea what Asylum Manila is all about.

Asylum Manila is one of the newest attraction located in #1148 E Rodriguez Sr. Ave, New Manila, Quezon City. Asylum Manila is a massive walk-through dark attraction filled with terrifying live actors, horror movie style scares, and Hollywood quality special effects. It is actually situated in an old building which I could not remember what was it before, along E. Rodriguez, just in front of Christ the King.

Outside, you can actually feel the eeriness of the place. The old building gives that kind of character that would already scare you. A long queuing line can also be seen in here, along with the ticketing booth and a small restaurant which was also the last area one could explore upon entering the place.

If you are bringing a car, there is a parking spaces allocated for the guest in front of the attraction. It is free parking but could only accommodate a few.  You can also have the option to pay park at Christ the King (in front of Asylum) for Php 50.00 per car.

When we decided to ‘Check in as Patients’, there were no queuing or long lines, hence we were able to do the game instantly. We got our tickets discounted via Metrodeal, buying it for Php 499 only. We were also told that the whole experience inside the Asylum would last from 30-45 minutes. But would really depend on your pacing.

Prelude: Asylum Story

In 1939 the Asylum was established as the Country’s premier psychiatric institute for the criminally insane. It was said that all of the worst and most violent psychiatric patients were brought to this place where they can be treated and where it would be safe to keep them from escape.

At the time the Country was still part of the US commonwealth, the Asylum was headed by a Dr. Vanicutt, a renowned psychiatric doctor from Pennsylvania. He was joined by his beautiful wife and their young daughter Anastasia. After a mysterious and tragic accident Dr. Vanicutt’s wife was killed. Soon after her death Dr. Vanicutt sunk into a state of madness and insanity, some say he was even possessed. He tormented his patients, he conducted grotesque medical experiments and many died, evil consumed this place.

In 1941 when the Japanese invaded, they found what they thought was an abandoned building. After foolishly stationing a garrison of soldiers there they soon went insane and slaughtered each other. No one entered after that and the building was left to decay and ruin.

Now in 2019 the doors of the Asylum are open again, welcoming new patients. Enter and see if you can survive and discover the horrible truth about what happened in the Asylum! (Also Read: The New Agila Attraction at Enchanted Kingdom)

The Asylum Manila Experience (With No Spoilers)

We visited Asylum on a Thursday afternoon. There were a lot of people already outside the vicinity which we thought at first lining up for a queue, but to my surprise, all of them were already done and were just hanging out and waiting. Me and my friends were really excited to try this, in fact we were planning to do this visit for more than a week already.

After securing our tickets via Metrodeal, we then went straight at the ticket booth to claim the actual ticket. A staff approached us as well and gave us a waiver to sign. After signing and getting our tickets, we then went straight at the front door were two creepy nurses gives us a few instructions. Before entering a photographer will first take your photo, which you have the option to purchase it after the game. (Also Read: What’s new in Star City)

Phones and cameras are already prohibited once you entered the first door.

Once you are inside, the terror begins. We were passing different doors, climbing up stairs, sliding down and even passing through a very dark alley. Shouting and screaming (and laughing) in every corner. There are surely a lot of things happening inside the Asylum Manila. As I was told, the attraction covers the whole three floors, so expect to walk in different scenarios inside the place.

If you would want to know more (or give you some spoilers on what to expect inside the attraction) do message me on my official Facebook page.

In the middle of the attraction, a photo studio setup will be encountered. As I remember there are 3 or 4 themes that you can choose from. These are mostly the photos you would see on social media.

You’ll know that you’ve already reach the end, once you pass the door that brings you at the Souvenir store and restaurant.

Now, to answer the question . . .

Is Asylum Manila really worth it for Php 699?

With Jaybee, Jeff Ong, Rhea Bue, Josh, Lharby Policarpio, Then Chua and Kevin.

Yes! Definitely worth it. For a person like me who’ve been working in TV production for a long time and have a very high standard in terms of prosthetics and presentation, I can definitely recommend for you to try the place.

“Hindi sya corny and dissapointing as to how I would say it. In fact, I was amazed on how they were able to interconnect the rooms and planned to build the whole place.”

For a price that is almost the same as “Dessert Museum” in S’Maison, I would definitely pick Asylum Manila over it. In fact I would love to try and visit it again with my other friends. And that is already a repeat customer on their end. Though the Php 1,200 VIP ticket is a bit of too much, better fall in line instead.

Asylum Manila Attraction Quezon City-4

Actually, if photography is permitted inside the attraction, I could say that there are a lot of areas I would love to take my photo with. I would also like to commend the attraction for the props and machinery for most of it are truly believable.  The actors also got the right timing when doing the scare tactics. They also stay in character, even we were already laughing and making fun of them.

One of the things that I could suggest for improvements though was the ventilation and air-conditioning. We were perspiring a lot from start till the end so better bring an extra shirt for change right after. Another thing, I guess is to have a more mind blowing background music. Though I know some of the areas, already have sound effects, but I think having the right music each room would heighten up the feeling of each guest.

Also, It is best to try the attraction in small groups, probably 2-4 people, so you could be able to experience the scare tactics at the same time. If you are brave enough, do it all by yourself. Let me know if you have the courage to do it.

Until our next discovery in the City!
