Citibank now lets you Authenticate your identity using Voice Biometrics

Citi Philippines launches Voice Biometrics, a groundbreaking authentication process to be roll out across Asia.

I once encountered a major problem using one of my credit cards. One time a bill amounting to 47, 000 was sent over to me. I was shocked on that moment knowing that I didn’t even use the card at a span of a month or two. I was devastated to learn that it was maliciously used online spending till it reaches the credit limit. I reported the incident instantly but for months, I carry the burden of knowing that this incident can mark my name in that bank. Luckily, after a month-long investigation the bank waived everything.

With that certain situation, I realize, having a very secure verification is really important and with the advance technology sometimes signatures isn’t really enough to protect what is really yours.

On a lighter note, Citibank changes the game just recently as it launched a new innovation in terms of security.

The country’s largest foreign bank, Citibank, is the first bank in Asia to introduce Voice Biometrics. Starting October 2016, Citi Philippines clientele will no longer need to remember passwords, or personal identification numbers or answer a series of question to verify your identities; all you would be needing is your voice as your password.

Citi Philippines CEO Aftad Ahmed and Consumer Banking Head Bea Tan announced to the media the introduction of this groundbreaking technology being introduced in the Philippines. With the launch, Citi’s more than 1 million clients in the country can now enroll in Voice Biometrics and let their voices be the means for authentication of their phone banking transactions.

The Voice Biometrics authentication capability identifies customers through their voiceprint, which, similar to a fingerprint, is unique to each person. Citi clients can opt to enroll by recording their voices, which the bank will use to generate and store their voiceprints for matching subsequent calls to Citibank. Each voiceprint will be uniquely tagged and cannot be reverse engineered once store.

But what if you got a twin brother or maybe your one of the triplets? Well, Ms. Bea Tan reiterated that they’ve already run tests to different subjects, weather its twins, triplets or whatnot, so you wouldn’t need to worry.

Voice registration is easy. All you need to do is to call Citi centre and ask for the Voice Biometric services. You will then be asked to answer three to five questions to verify the identity while simultaneously digitizing voice print.

Once enrolled, customers who call into the bank’s contact centers will have their identity automatically verified within 15 seconds or less as they explain their reason for calling. This is a reduction from an average time of around 45 seconds currently or 66% less time spent verifying their details currently. The shorter the time, meaning more people to be given service.

To date, voice biometrics authentication has been implemented in Taiwan, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia.

Until our next discovery in the City!
