MANILA, Sept. 25, 2013 – LG Electronics Philippines garnered a momentous market growth in the competitive smartphone segment, according to latest data from GfK.

The consumer electronics giant gained “significant, amount-based market share” driven by the success of its Optimus L Series line-up released early this year. Both first and second generation L Series mobile phones targeted low to middle market segments.

The South Korean global leader and technology innovator also unveiled its G Series models this year, the LG Optimus G and LG Optimus G Pro, catering to the premium market. According to GfK, LG Philippines’ smartphone sales for the first half of 2013 almost doubled with a growth of 94% versus 2012.

The latest on the G Series roster is the internationally acclaimed LG G2, dubbed by Stuff.tv as “the best smart phone in the world”. Lawrence Kim, vice president of LGEPH Mobile Communications, noted that the timing of the mobile phone’s Philippine debut is a strategic move. “The highly anticipated LG G2 generated the shortest period of time between a global and a local launch,” he said. “We want to support the global rollout and marketing initiatives of the G2 and be able to maximize the market share of the premium mobile user segment in the Philippines.

The G2 is noticeably without the “Optimus” which is the smartphone brand that comes with the models of LG Mobile. Kim explained that this signifies a “human-inspired” smartphone with features that will revolutionize a highly competitive industry.

Kim added, “With the groundbreaking LG G2, we are confident that we can maintain our strong market position in the Philippine smartphone industry especially as it features many industry firsts that will surely change the smartphone scene in the country.
