Twice the Fun at The Sing and Shoot part 2!

Smart Araneta Coliseum was filled with fun and excitement at the friendly basketball sequel of Sing and Shoot Event. Sing and Shoot 2 features the basketball battle between Filipino Actors and officials from various government offices and will also feature the singing talents of some of the best Filipino music Artists and singers in a mini-concert prior to the game proper.

With a few changes on the line-up of players, Public Servants Team are compose of Supreme Court Spokesperson Atty. Midas Marquez, Philippine National Police Chief Director Nicanor Bartolome, Congressmen Sherwin Tugna, Sigfrido Tinga, Erin Tañada III, PDIR Roque Ramirez and PO2 Marlon Tiglao from the PNP, Rodel Chua from the Supreme Court, Joseph Cabanting, Arnel Cerafica, Dennis Escalona, and Coach Bo Perasol which is the current head coach of the Powerade Tigers in the Philippine Basketball Association.

On the other hand, Team Celebrity was composed of Ervic Vijandre, Rey “PJ” Abellana, the Legaspi Brothers (Zoren, Kier, and Brando), Jordan Herrera, Eric Fructuoso, Dinky Doo, Jr., Dave Almarinez, John Hall, Bentot, and Bobby Henson who impersonates the late FPJ (Fernando Poe, Jr.). Coaching the celebrities’ team this time is veteran actor Tirso Cruz III.

Entertaining the audiences thru music, singers like Ms. Glennete Gaddi, Gerald Santos and Nina captured the crowd by their wonderful voices. UNTV hosts Ms. Veronica Alejar and Louella De Cordova, also gave a share of their talents by showing us some moves and song rendition as well.

THE GAME

Before the game started, commentators gave their insights in this exciting game. One commentator said that with regards to the chemistry, celebrity might have the advantage for knowing each other more especially on how they play the game.

At the first quarter of the game, Celebrities won over Public Servants with 1 point, 18-17.

The 2nd quarter ended up still in favor of the blue team (Celebrities) with 48-38. The 2nd quarters highlight is the skit prepared by comedians Dinky Doo, Bentot Jr and Bobby Henson a.k.a. FPJ. It cools down the heat of the tournament for a while, even the referee of the game was laughing really hard!

Mr. Public Service Kuya Daniel Razon, who is unfortunately out of the country, delivered a message for all the supporters of the event. Kuya Daniel reiterated the main reason and the cause of this move, to support the public services rendered by UNTV and to help the students of La Verdad Christian College, which is the main beneficiary of the event.

He also gave his heartwarming appreciation to all the celebrities and public servants who participated in this event. Plaque of appreciation was also given to all the players, headed by the Vice President for Administration of BMPI-UNTV, Mr. Gerry Panghulan and Chairman Emeritus of UNTV, Mr. Larry Henares.

At the 3rd quarter, Public Servants are eager to gain more points to win the quarter. But according to the commentator, the likes of John Hall and Jordan Herrera are quite difficult to tired down, they are just like a microwave oven which when turned on, can easily heat up the game!

The 3rd quarter ended up with 70-72 in favor of the celebrities.

In the last quarter, Blue team formed the line up of John Hall, Kier and Zoren Legaspi, Jordan Herrera and Ervic Vijandre. On the other hand, Public Servants lined up Bartolome, Escalona, Tiglao, Ramirez and Cabanting. The last quarter is where the most exciting part of the game is situated. Ervic Vijandre with 5 fouls graduated at the 4th quarter, he was one of the high scorer of the team blue.  Rodel Chua of Public Servants also graduated with 5 fouls.

One minute before the game ended, the crowd goes wild when Tiglao got a steal and scored 2 points making the Public Servants regain with the score 100-99. Both team was struggling for the win! Two free-throws from Sherwin Tugna gave the Public Servants an equivalent score with the Blue Team with 101. The exciting fourth quarter game unexpectedly ended up with an overtime score of 103-103! It was an espectacular game! The organizers decided not to do an overtime game, instead teases everybody with a part 3! John hall with a total of 30 points was reigned as the MVP for the Blue Team, while Congressman Sherwin Tugna was hailed as the MVP for the White team.

Sing and Shoot 2 supports hundreds of elementary and high school scholars of La Verdad Christian School. This free school project of Kuya Daniel, is under his advocacy Kahit Isang Araw Lang (Just One Day) that aims to promote citizen volunteerism even for just one day. The same advocacy supports other projects in the fields of journalism and community service all geared to give public service free of charge.
