It is very nostalgic for me to be surrounded by ’90s stuff. Being a kid of the of that generation, I’m still trying to gasp the idea that the era I grew up with is now starting to become a fad (like the ’60s, 70s, 80s era). And I’m ecstatically happy with it, but on the back of my mind “shit! I’m old!”
I congratulate Havaianas for successfully pulling off a 90’s era theme recently for the media launch of this years “Make Your Own Havaianas”. Generations collided as celebrities and influencers gathered together for a rad time travel experience last May 3 at Cable Car Pasay Road for this year’s exciting flip-flop customisation event of the year, #MYOH2017!
It was a first I think for Havaianas to be putting of an “era” destination instead of the usual travel inspired icons. I felt lucky to came early at the venue for I do believe that it will be a bit crowded later on, which it did! Hundreds of guests got a whole new thrill in showing off our personality as we able to customise our flip-flops.
For my pair, I took this years commemorative pair and matched it with a red strap. It was also fun to mix and match other colors and oh, if your are having trouble deciding. Havaianas have already prepared different combinations that would suit your tastes. I personally love the Mario theme in Ruby Red and Marine Blue.
And because it was my first time doing the customization, I was too giddy to get not just two but 5 pins. I included some of the throwback icons that includes TV, Cassette tape, Ilove90s pin and Video game icon. I also tried their new offering which is the 3D printing technology where I decided to put my initials. It’s an additional 15 minutes of waiting thou, but its definitely worth it. If you do not like waiting the 3D pins came in ready-made designs, such as the block, peace sign, and eight-bit heart.
Other icon designs to choose from includes Boom Box and the glow-in-the-dark pins selections, which is a reminiscent of those stickers that everyone just loved to put on their walls and ceilings back in the day! They came in the designs of lightning bolt, smiley, star, lips, and the letters M-Y-O-H, all the more making the selection irresistible.
Aside from the opportunity to make our very own Havaianas, an unplugged session with ‘90s icons Basti Artadi and Cooky Chua, and jams by Mars Miranda, was no doubt relieve the glory days of the ‘90s and basking in the nostalgia with Havaianas were made so much sweeter during that night. As if there was a decade that could be any better than the ‘90s!
