The Evolution of the Health Keynote Speaker: From Wellness to Biohacking

When people think of a health keynote speaker, they tend to visualize someone who will talk about how to live a healthy life. They could discuss the physical or mental side of the equation, or they could even talk about both. That image isn’t entirely up to date, though.

Now, when you’re going to hear a health keynote speakeryou’re going to listen to someone give more specific examples, and they are going to be bringing a lot of science into it. How did that happen? Here’s how the evolution of health keynotes came about.

Health Keynote Speaker

The Wellness Era

This was at the very early stage of any health speeches. The speakers would take the stage and speak about broad topics, like making sure to get enough sleep, exercise, eat healthy foods, and manage stress. A lot of it was generally common sense.

As a result, while the speeches usually pointed toward a holistic lifestyle, it became harder for the speakers to stand out. That’s why they began the push toward biohacking. The results were a lot better and gained a lot more audience attention.

A Biohacking Overview

Previously, the health speakers talked about people making wholesale changes to their lives. Biohacking, on the other hand, is more about them making minute adjustments to certain areas of their lives. It’s like someone adding certain hardware to a computer to optimize its performance — the person’s body is the computer and the lifestyle change is the optimization.

There are things a biohacker can focus on, like shedding weight, improving their overall brain function, and also ways to make them feel better as a whole. Another goal is to extend the biohacker’s lifespan and have them live longer in a way that allows them to enjoy it to the fullest.

Specific Biohacking Techniques

These various keynote speakers can touch on a variety of techniques that can help their audience live healthier lives. These techniques can include biology, nutrition, and also even ways to get peak physical performance and endurance.

  • DIY Biology – The people who do this tend to shun the academic rigors and consider themselves “citizen scientists.” They can study microbiology, nutrition, and biomedical and synthetic biology.
  • Nutrigenomics – This could make a food lover very happy. It’s about how certain foods interact with people’s genes.  The result is a specific nutrition plan that plays a part in one’s health.
  • Grinders – While you might think that this is about the hustle lifestyle, it’s about getting one’s body ready to operate at its peak. This includes having technology embedded under their skin.

There are other things that they discuss, like fasting, smart drugs (nootropics), and even using certain prescription drugs like Adderall to boost performance. It’s a way to use both the old (fasting) with the new (nootropics) and see what they can do.

As the health field continues to grow and improve, it’s going to be fascinating to see what speakers are going to be saying over the next several decades. They may continue to refine biohacking or they may come across a brand new way to help people keep healthy. Whatever the case, they are going to be more than willing to speak to groups of people to present what they know.
