Evolution of (Harry) Styles #GlobeHarryStyles

From the reality show, X-Factor to worldwide phenomenon One Direction (1D), the youngest 1D member Harry Styles is now taking a different direction in both his music and career.

And with his emerging style of retro-rock, Harry Styles’ is set to foot back in Manila with his first-solo world tour this coming May 1, 2018 at the Mall of Asia Concert Grounds.

Filipino fans were beyond excited, so when Globe held an exclusive pre-sale registration last June, all 2,000 ticket reservation codes allotted were sold out in just 52 seconds! This record topped the pre-registration sale for #GlobeColdplay whose record was six minutes.

With just several days before we see him live, it would be a good excuse to talk about the man of the hour. After all, I’m starting to become a fan.

In this blog will talk about:

  • The Beginning: One Direction
  • Newfound Music
  • Harry Styles: Live On Tour
  • Style by Styles

The Beginning: One Direction

It wasn’t too long ago when the famous boy band One Direction (1D) was formed. Composed of Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik, the group signed under Simon Cowell’s record label Syco Records after finishing 3rd in the 7th season of X-Factor in 2010.

Though they all individually failed in the Boys category on that season, the producer come up with the idea of forming them as a boy band. It was Harry Styles who thought of the name “One Direction” when the group was at the boot camp. And as they say, the rest was history.

They might not have been on the top then, but succeeding events prove that it was time for a new reigning boy band.  They made fans go crazy, not just in U.K., but all over the world. If you might not have known them then, you might probably have heard their hits that topped almost every music chart.

One Direction has produced 5 albums before their indefinite hiatus, this includes Up all Night (2011), Take Me Home (2012), Midnight Memories (2013), Four (2014), and Made in the A.M. (2015).

Amongst the 5, I consider “Four” as my favorite, for the line up of music they have here have really grown from the usual upbeat music they have in the past. The variety of sounds and their range was also prevalent in this album. A few of my favorite tracks include, ‘Night Changes’, ‘Steal my Girl’ and a more upbeat track ‘No Control’.

In the first quarter of 2015, Zayn Malik decided to leave the group to pursue a solo career. The four piece 1D, after some time produced their last album ‘Made in the A.M.’ before their long hiatus.

Harry’s Newfound Music

Fans were raving for a comeback but the band members of 1D decided to go to a different path, pursuing their own careers and creating their own sound. I was personally surprised to find out that each of the members had different tastes yet produces really good quality music.

Making an early mark on his solo career was Harry Styles with his retro-rock, soft rock, and folk kind of sound, which is preeminent in his first single, “Sign of the Times.” The single is part of his recording deal under Columbia Records, which he signed June 2016.

Styles’ musical influences were molded through his parents with music coming from Queen, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Harry Nilsson, Norah Jones, Savage Garden and Shania Twain.

I am personally a fan of Styles’ music influences, but I can honestly say that I’m not really a hardcore fan of his former group. But as Harry progresses, It is quite hard not to acknowledge that from a younger crowd he had once before, his music tends to elevate to a much more older sound. I can actually say that Styles music is currently growing on me.

In May 2017, Styles released his self-titled album followed by an acting debut in Christopher Nolan’s war film “Dunkirk”.

Currently, Harry Styles is doing his first-ever solo world tour that includes Manila. The first leg of Harry Styles: Live On Tour kicked-off last September 2017 in San Francisco and followed by over 80 more concerts until July 2018 in North America, Asia, Oceania and South America.

Harry Styles: Live On Tour

Filipino hardcore fans could be the one we should be thanking for, for the huge fan demand they have shown makes it impossible for Styles to not make us a part of his tour. Now there are more reasons for us to stay in Manila on May 1, 2018, which is also the Philippines celebration of Labor Day holiday.

Harry Styles: Live on Tour is produced by Live Nation and is promoted by MMI Live. Styles’ Manila concert is presented by Globe.

Style by Styles!

Ripped jeans, floral top, dark brown ankle boots shoes, add some accessories, put on some pomade, bring that leather bag and you are good to go with a Harry Styles inspired outfit.

Wearing: SM Youth (Floral Top); BUM (Jeans); SM Milanos (Shoes) | Tip: Do not forget to unbutton the 3 buttons from the top. If you are a little bit conservative, 2 will do.

Styles’ range of OOTD’s could be as simple as a plain black shirt to a more sleek and loud retro-looking floral suit. He is consistent with his sense of style that is inspired from his musical icons.

Wearing: Coat from Levenson Bespoke, Shoes from SM Milanos

For sure a lot of fans would be channeling his retro-boho-rocker style on the day of his visit, If you are a bit worried you wouldn’t be able to pull it off, well, I prepared some references you could probably use.
