Kamuning Bakery, The Oldest Bakery in Quezon City

Galetas, Bidigos, Pan De Suelo??? Names you probably don’t know or  you heard now for the first time. But if you asked your parents or grandparents, they would probably tell you not just about it but with additional story from the past.

Galetas, Bidigos, Pan De Suelo are just some of the breads that are being sold here at Kamuning Bakery. Opened in 1939, this is considered as the oldest authentic pugon or wood-fire oven bakery and the very first bakery to open in Quezon City, Philippines.

We got a chance to meet the new owner of the store, Mr. Wilson Lee Flores, He told us a lot of stories about the history and on how they manages to retain it’s original process and yet keep up with new developments.

Mr. Wilson says that Pugon or wood-fire oven baking is almost a lost art which  they continue to uphold by painstakingly producing high-quality, no-preservatives & no-additive products, despite the challenges of this modern era.

On our visit, we got to try their famous Pan De Suelo, it looks like Pan De Sal but bigger and more compact. Its perfect match with coffee and old-school-condense-milk, which I love spreading on the Pan De Suelo.

Aside from Pan De Suelo, you can also try their all-time bestsellers which includes Strawberry Cake, Eggpie, Biscocho, Pianono, Pan de España, Pan de Coco, Cinammon Rolls, the unique Pan de Rizal, Laburita, and Pan de Ciosa. They also have moist chocolate cakes, Butter Cakes and the very famous Brazo de Mercedes.

  • […] Sporting Giordano Classic both top and bottom, I visited Kamuning Bakery in Quezon City. It’s an old bakeshop that was established in 1939. Just like Giordano, the bakery brings back classic breads that most of our parents have once loved. It’s like time travelling back into that era when Pandesal are still twice larger as how it looks nowadays. Check out and visit http://www.nognoginthecity.com for the details of my visit here at Kamuning Bakery. […]
