@SMMEGAMALL Food Sale and my Yabu House of Katsu Dining Experience

yabu house of katsu

Recently SM Megamall held a food sale from August 17-29, 2012 entitled, SM Megamall Food Sale, it can be considered as heaven for foodies because of having different freebies and discounts that one can avail from participating restaurants.

I came a bit late from the dinner call time, when I arrived at SM megamall admin office, I was happily welcomed by Sean and other megamall staff. Three friend bloggers were there already at the conference room area when I arrived. Before we went out SM Management decided to make us as one group and try some foods at Yabu House of Katsu.

Yabu? Whats Yabu?

My Yabu Experience

I came with fellow bloggers, Mitch, Alex and Ryan. We were escorted by SM Megamall staff and introduce to us the store manager, Sir Mon of Yabu House of Katsu.

It was our first time to dine at Yabu House of Katsu, thus it will be perfect for us to try something new with this out of the box concept restaurant. I was very happy and excited when I saw that it was a Japanese restaurant

For the SM Megamall food sale, Yabu House of Katsu (2F Mega Atrium) diners could have a Free appetizer set & 2 bottomless lemonades for every order of 2 Katsu sets & All-day bottomless Miso soup for every Katsu set.

The manager of the store was very accommodative and serves us instantly 2 sets of appetizers. You could actually choose 2 appetizer variants for the price of 195 pesos.

The Appetizer
Edamame – Young Green Soybeans
Superior Potato and Egg Salad – chunks of potato and egg, tossed in creamy mayonnaise-mustard dressing
Hiyayakko Tofu – Cold Silken tofu cubes in ponzu sauce, sprinkled with bonito flakes
Wakame – seasweed salad topped with ebiko

My personal favorite was the Wakame which is a seaweed salad topped with ebiko. Consequently, everybody keeps away from the young green soybean for the reason that nobody knows how to eat it actually, good thing we asked some servers and find the right answer. Only the seeds are to be eaten and well, yes it tastes good!

Anatomy of Yabu Katsu

For the main course, I ordered the Katsu Curry Set, which is served with unlimited Japanese rice, miso soup, Japanese pickles, unlimited cabbage with sesame dressing and a bowl of fruit. According to their menu, Japanese curry, which rose to popularity in Japan during the Meiji era in the mid 1800s, is thicker, sweeter and milder compared to other Asian curries.

Rosu Kurobuta Curry (P615)

Under the Katsu Curry Set, there are also some other choices you can pick either of the Rosu Kurobuta Curry which is P615, Rosu Katsu Curry which is P330, Chicken Katsu Curry at P320 and you can add an additional fried egg for P20.

Rosu Kurobuta Curry

The homemade curry is made with 45 ingredients and slow cooked to perfection, you can also asked the server how spicy your curry would be, from regular, hot or very hot.

For my dinner, I picked Rosu Kurobuta Curry which means, Rosu or pork with a trimming of fat. Kurobuta, also known as the black Berkshire pig, is the world’s finest pork.

Cooking time is between 10-20 minutes, sesame seeds putted in a bowl and wooden smasher will be first serve to you if you order the Katsu set, and because we were newbie and still ignorant with the process, asking servers would be very useful on how to use it.

If you lost track on how to mix and use the sesame seed don’t be so shy to asked the friendly staff or search and spot for a guy wearing this shirt! (Lol)

very helpful, indeed!

All u need to do is just do your ninja skills and try to catch a glimpse of at the information written in the shirt. Nice idea!

Dining at Yabu house of Katsu is definitely is an Endless Satisfaction. The perfect partner to our delicious Katsu are the unlimited fragrant koshihikari rice and sliced cabbage, served with all set meals, for those with a la carte orders, you can enjoy unlimited rice for an additional P95.

At Yabu, they think of nothing else but creating perfect katsu for the diners. If you actually not happy with the quality or flavor of the food, they can actually gladly replace it, or return your payment, if your food is not served within 30 minutes, it is also free of charged.

For vegetarian, Yabu house of Katsu also offers the Vegetarian Katsu Set which is compose of Japanese  Silken Tofu, Onion rings Eggplant, bell Pepper, Potatoes and carrots all for P290.

At first, the place was a bit intimidating, but definitely homey and the ambiance is really great. Aside from the excellent food, the service was great! For people who are used to eating in fast-food restaurant and ordering their favorite Katsu, don’t get shock with the price here in Yabu House of katsu, the reasonably price Katsu is definitely a go-getter and tasting it will give you an urge to come back and try the other menu. All in all I had a great time eating my Rosu Kurobuto Curry, and looking forward to try some other stuff next time around.
