The Story Behind Every Photo

How to do you qualify a good photo? Is it with a perfect lighting? Is it base on the angle? Is it about the subject? the over all impact of the scene?

We might have different views about this one and perhaps different ways of seeing which is beautiful or not, but I’m sure there is one particular aspect that can make us realize that a picture is worth seeing – The Story.

They say stories behind the photograph can make a simple photo look differently, this is actually something that I’ve learned when I attended the finals night of Air Asia Travel Photographer 2016 contest, held at the Green Sun, Makati City.

Remember my story just recently about this competition … Top 6 finalists of AirAsia Travel Photographer 2016 contest revealed

The former six was then trim down into three finalist that includes Kimberly Pauig, a writer from Pasig City, Daniel Magbanua, a fashion photography student from Quezon City and Dave Poblete, a BPO employee from Makati City. They were brought to Macau (along with the other 3) to capture different subjects and show their skills in portraitures, food photography and more.

Each of the finalists was given enough time to present their chosen photos in each category. I was personally judging their photos based on my liking and got some fondness with Dave Poblete’s work.

Impressed with the quality and composition of the entries, judges Nachi Ugarte, creative Director of GRID magazine; Jacob Maentz, documentary photographer; Wawi Navarrosa, artist/photographer, founder of Thousandfold; and Rudy Khaw, AirAsia Group’s Head of Branding hailed Kimberly Pauig as this years winner.

She received 200,000 AirAsia BIG Points, a surprise vacation package and several prizes from partner brands including GRID magazine and Flight 001. Dave Poblete and Daniel Magbanua placed second and third consecutively.

I was actually wondering what if I joined this contest will I’ll be able to even qualify on the first cut? Will see next year, maybe I would be ready and can showcase my skill in story telling through photography.
