The world of smartphone is getting tougher than ever, and to make a mark, one must either innovate or create a significant upgrade. But sometimes, there are compromises in the bargain, and true enough some specs could be good on paper but testing it just simply can’t deliver.

I got my hands on the new Huawei P9 just recently and at first sight, three words I could best describe it are compact, stylish and stunning.

Created remarkably with diamond cut-edges with beautiful curvatures, sculpted with aerospace-class unibody aluminum and a superior-grade 2.5D glass.

But fully maximising the capability of the particular gadget could only be the way to make your spending worth it. And if you’re someone who is more on to tripods and low light setting, but also looking for a sleek, stylish and handy unit, a Huawei P9 could be the perfect phone to your pocket.

Yes, Selfie could be an A-game in the society today, but Huawei P9 could attract more than that market. With an 8 megapixel front-facing camera, and features like panoramic selfie and beauty shot plus achieving a superior selfies even in low light, Huawei P9 isn’t far from the league.

But more than that, Huawei P9 has some compelling hardware that could tempt people away from using DSLR, especially when travelling light. That is through the help of Leica. And one feature that I super love the most is the LIGHT PAINTING.

huawei P9 night shot mode

Light painting or light drawing is a photographic technique in which exposures are made by moving light source while taking a long exposure photograph. The purpose is to either illuminate the subject or shine a point of light directly at the camera.

first two trials was a mess.

Huawei P9 made light painting shooting very easy by just clicking it in the modes, picking the perfect subject and setting up a stable tripod. Modes can be access by swiping from the left of the camera app. There are 12 choices in the modes that includes, time-lapse, panorama, video, photo, slow-mo, night shot, HDR, Monochrome, Watermark, Light Painting, Beauty Video and Beauty.

Clicking the Light Painting will reveal four more options that includes Tail lights, Light graffiti, Silky Water and Star Track.

Sorry for the shaky hands. But I still posted this just to show you how Silky Water works. The photo is shot at Hinulugang Taktak, Antipolo Rizal.

Tail Lights is for capturing the trails of light made by moving cars in the night while the Light graffiti is for capturing trails of light in a dark environment. Silky water is used to capture the flow of moving water in silky smooth effect while the Star track is for capturing the trails of the stars and galaxy in the night sky.

I admit that I haven’t really maximise the use of this features yet, and because of the gloomy weather, it’s quite hard to capture images using Tail lights, Silky Water and Star Track. Though I manage to try Light graffiti recently inside my room. Here are some of the photos I captured. I wasn’t really sure what I’m doing at first but eventually manages to create some cool images.

We all need to see the stars as soon as possible, right?

The more creative you are the better. You can even use other light colors to make if more fun. Next time i’ll to think of a better concept and will try to master this pretty soon!

Here’s another shot I made from my recent trip capturing the beauty of Pico De Loro at Night using Huawei P9’s night mode. Take note that the image I posted here are raw and didn’t even undergo any adjustment (aside from cropping).

I also captured a few videos using the phone and will post it as soon as I finished editing.

It’s really amazing how this small gadget can be a complete pack for phone photography enthusiasts. With its capability, I’m so willing to leave my bulky camera at home and bring in a compact gadget like Huawei P9 on my next travel. Will update this blog post as soon as I was able to capture more amazing photos.

Until our next discovery in the City!
