Owned by 3 friends, Russ Recina, Jojo Sicat and Oging Sicat ironically putted up Mesa in Pampanga even all their office works are base in Manila. Trusting the brand, and grabbing the opportunity was the key factors of putting up this decision.

Mesa has been one of their favorite restaurants here in manila that serves all authentic Filipino cuisine. Knowing that Pampanga as one of the Philippines‘ culinary capitals, putting up a restaurant here could be a bit difficult in terms of catering the taste buds of the market. But this didn’t impede their decision to continue; they overcome their fears just in the first week of their opening. The sales went up just within a month of their operations.

But what makes it appealing to the Kapampangan market? According to them, presentation is the key, added up with a tasteful unique taste at a very reasonable price, serving Filipino Dishes amplified!

Along with other blogger friends, we visited Mesa at SM City Clark just in time while everybody is in craze of waiting for the Red Hot Chili Peppers performance at the “We are 7107” located just across SM City Clark parking area.

Well it was a nice Sunday of good food as I could say, upon arriving the venue; we started up with some appetisers to pump up our dining experience. Tawilis with Manga on Spoon, Hito Flakes on Spoon and Baked Scallops with Garlic Butter lined up on our table.

Then a round of Tofu Salad, and Chicken Binakol Soup, We were also served with Seafoods, Meat and Vegetables, and Rice variations that include Tinapa Rice, Sisig Rice and Duck Basil Fried Rice.

The management is amaze with the turnouts of their sales, and according to them, because Kapampangan loves to eat, they would rather order for the more expensive menu on their list rather than the average. Lechon was one of their bestsellers in this branch. Thou the price could be abit above the average, the serving is perfect for sharing, and that is why it is best to enjoy the food here with companion, with friends or families.

If you do have the same taste buds as I do (likes sweet-spicy flavor) and wanted to be thrifty enough on not buying too much, you might want to consider the list I made (below) if ever you’ll dine here at Mesa.

Nognog recommends …

1. Appetizer – for  the appetiser try the Hito Flakes on Spoon, it got that crispy texture with a spike of spiciness coming from the chili on top. Finally I can eat Hito without seeing its head.

2. Salad – This ones quite addicting, the Tofu Salad or the soft bean curd topped with century egg and shrimp and is also perfect for vegetarians.

Aside from the soft curd, the delicious dressing was actually the best part of this dish.

Tofu Salad

3. SeafoodsPrawns sautéed in Salted Egg is like their version of buttered prawn but instead they used salted egg, which actually makes the prawn a bit more salty and tasty.

4. Vegetables – Oh you should try their Laing, this is one of their best sellers when it comes to the vegetable listings. Just the right kick of spiciness but  if you’re into the challenge you can always request to put an added spice to its taste.

5. Rice – If you love Sisig, then Sisig Rice could be perfect for you, It has that savory taste that boasts with distinct aroma with tidbits of Sisig mix on top with sunny side up egg.

6. Meat – Try Crispchon, or the roasted piglet served which is serve with pandan crepes, wansuy, cucumber and leeks garnishes. Priced at PhP4,550- whole, PhP2,400- half, PhP1,400- quarter, PhP1,050- 1/6th, you have the chance to choose three from the six kinds of sauces available: Rikki’s Choice, Garlic Mayo, Sweet Chili, Spicy Pork Liver, Wansuy Infused and Curry Mustard. My bet was the Spicy Pork Liver.
