Two award-winning filmmakers collaborates for ‘Bes and the Beshies’

Giving us a break to the numbers of drama movie line up recently was this up coming film that will give us women empowerment in a comedic approach.  “Bes and the Beshies” stars the box office comedy queen Ai Ai delas Alas with Carmi Martin, Beauty Gonzales and Ms. Zsa Zsa Padilla. Four women facing real life struggles that will touch our hearts and will make us have a laugh out loud moments.

I was able to get to know more about the movie when “Bes and the Beshie” held a press conference at Le Reve in Quezon City. Main star Ai Ai delas Alas and Ms. Zsa Zsa Padilla graced the event along with hashtag member Nikko Natividad.

It wasn’t the first time Ai Ai and Zsa Zsa teams up for a movie, but being in the film “Bes and the Beshies” gave them a few first. As Ai Ai told us it was her first time working with Director Joel Lamangan. Director Joel has a really different style, she describes, and she see’s him as a perfectionist and wanted everything to always be on the right moment.

Zsa Zsa, on the other hand, also got her first! As she said, it was her first time being in a role speaking in Visaya where she needed to really deliver the right accent. It was a struggle at first, but eventually she manages to pull it off.

Furthermore, what makes “Bes and the Beshies” a cut above your average comedy flick is that it is a collaboration between two award-winning filmmakers. Joel Lamangan and Ricky Lee may have made a name for themselves with numerous dramatic films but they have in fact, also done their fair share of comedies.

Lamangan, who directed in “Zsa Zsa Zaturnah” and “Mano Po 4: Ako Legal Wife” has been directing romantic comedies including “Your Place or Mine,” “That Thing Called Tanga Na” and “Foolish Love.”

Lee, arguably the most celebrated screenwriter in Philippine cinema, has also in fact served as script consultant for Ai Ai’s “Ang Tanging Ina” and “Ang Tanging Ina N’yong Lahat.”

And giving us a new flair of comedy through writings were Alpha Habon and Rod Marmol, who started from Cinemalaya and were also  students of Lee.

A Cineko Productions presentation, the film also stars Emilio Garcia, Sancho Vito Delas Alas, Alan Paule, Nikko Natividad, Jon Lucas, Wilbert Ross, Mark Joseph Tam and Heaven Peralejo.

With a strong creative team and a cast of talented leads, expect “Bes and the Beshies” to be a comedy that offers more than just escapist entertainment with a story that rings true and tugs at the heartstrings.

‘Bes and the Beshies’ opens in cinemas nationwide on October 18, is directed by Joel Lamangan and written by Ricky Lee, Alpha Habon and Rod Marmol, and will be distributed by Regal Entertainment.

Until our next discovery in the City!
