Plush and Play is a social enterprise born in the GK Enchanted Farm 2 years ago. They are creating unique Filipino inspired stuffed toys, handcrafted and home-made by hard working resident mothers from Gawad Kalinga communities. Plush and Play aims to restore the Filipino seamstresses’ livelihood and pride in their craftsmanship; and to inspire the next generation of young Filipinos.

I came at the venue an hour late, but it was just okay. Yuki is still at the venue waiting for me. Upon my arrival, Fabien approached me and showed me all the toy plush (I still didn’t know that he was the owner of the brand, but i have a hint already). He was a young entrepreneur who got an advocacy of creating jobs for the mommies of Gawad Kalinga. Nice right!?

TOY PLUSH MAKING

I got a chance to create my first toy plush. First I was asked to choose what to create. The available designs includes, Carabao, Fish, Mango, Bahay Kubo, Heart and Sun. I picked mango. Then I choose the fabric color. Then head on to draft the pattern.

You need to put a half inch allowance in cutting the pattern. This was the easy part. The hard part is just next in line: Sewing.

I was told that it was just like pressing the clutch of a car, unfortunately I don’t know how to drive, so I was blank. But anyway, I did half of the sewing and I think I did a great job.

Leave a small hole just enough to put inside the cotton, then get a pointed material to help you invert sewed clothe.

Making it fluffy is the best part for me. Specially if your doing it with friends or family. It’s the perfect bonding for art enthusiasts. Good thing Yuki was there , we were talking about earning more by putting up a production outfit. Game Yuki!!

I can see now the shape of my mango. After achieving the right puffiness of my toy plush. It’s now time to make it more personalize. I created a leaf and a stem and putted a cute winking face as well. Here’s how my mango initially  looks like and the final outcome.

I had so much fun! You too can do this! You still have time, kids would love it, bring the whole family as well. Plush and Play will be at SM MEGAMALL till today (11-15-16).

If you dont have time to try doing one, you can just support and purchased the first line of fruits and veggie themed toys, named after local icons – Pan Talong, Ryan Bawang, Karla Mansi, Maria Manga, Dalan Daniel, Sili Crawford, Fili Pinya, Apple de Ap, Antonio Repolyo, Manny Pakwan, Jessica Saging, Buko Martin, Anne Kamatis,Mais Ganda, Okra Aunor, Mang Gustin, etc…

Remember, buying one can help a Filipino worker. These are Hand-stitched with love, stuffed with dreams this is what Plush and Play offers. Now available at Toy Kingdom.
