Gym-Class Heroes & Nelly Furtado Live in Manila @TheBigDome

Nelly Furtado

Nelly Furtado, the Canadian singer-songwriter, visits Manila and perform her hits live at Smart Araneta Coliseum last August 16, 2012.

I’ve been one of her avid followers since I was in high school, from what I remember, with her hits from Nelly Furtado’s debut album Whoa, Nelly!, and its single “I’m Like a Bird“.

That’s why when I heard that Smart Araneta is giving me the privilege to watch her show, thru my friend Az (www.azraelsmerryland.blogspot.com), Lucky me! Right after our dinner in Italianni’s Restaurant in Gateway Mall branch, We hurriedly go to the newly constructed gate of Smart Araneta Colliseum which is just few walks from the restaurant.

We came a bit late, and miss the front act, Gracenote, and the Gym Class Heroes which is an American rap-rock band formed in 1997 when rapper Travie McCoy met drummer Matt McGinley during their high school gym class. Good thing, our buddies Ted Claudio (www.wazupphilippines.com) and Enzo (www.juanmanilaexpress.com) took some shots of the event.

We were given patron tickets. Even thou the concert started at 8pm as to what is written at the ticket. We are just on time to witness Nelly Furtado perform that started at around 10pm.

Nelly Futado’s set lists in Manila started with the danceable song “Maneater” which is perfectly performed for the opening salvo. Followed by “Big Hoops” with World Champion Hoop Dancer Tony Duncan.

Nelly Furtado performed all her hits which includes, “All Good Things”, “Mysterious”, “Jump” and “Say it Right” which was performed for her finale.

Other songs includes “Forca”, “Powerless”, “Light”, “Try”, “Parking Lot”, “No Hay Igual”, “Give it to me feat Art Strong”, “Morning/ Hot Fun” and some danceable remix of “Tiesto”, “Free”, “Gangnam Style”, and Nelly Furtado’s rendition of “Party Rockin”.

“I’m like A Bird” the song that made wonders for Nelly Furtado’s career  was a crowd-getter with Nelly’s slow rendition with a soulful introduction from Tony Duncan who played the harmonica. To add some Filipino touch, as too what Nelly Furtado says, Eunice of Gracenote performed some parts of the Chorus in Filipino.
