Taiwan Day #5: Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall, P.S. Bubu Café, Going back to Manila

Chiang Kai Shek PS BUBU Cafe

Day 5 is about the time for us to prepare on our flight back to Manila. Our flight back will be at 9 in the evening, this means we would need to be at the airport 3 hours before at least.

We got a few time to spare on that day and decided to pack our bags, check out early, leave our luggage at the hotel and visit two more picturesque places one should put in their list whenever they paid at visit in Taiwan: Chiang Kai Shek Memoral Hall & P.S. Bubu Café.

The  national museum, National Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall has been one of the famous landmark and tourist attraction erected in memory of the former president of the Republic of China, Chiang Kai Shek. The monument is located at Zhongzheng District, Taipei, Taiwan and is surrounded by a park, stands at the east end of Liberty Square, National Theater and National Concert Hall, situated on the north and south side.

From Ximen Station, we took the Bannan Line (Blue Line) and went down at Zhongxiao Xinsheng which is just 6 minutes away from the Memorial hall.

It was a huge open area surrounded by 4 halls. With the very nice cool weather, strolling on this place is perfect. A friend of mine who just visited this place told us that this is also the place of the changing guards. But because our next location is a bit far from our area, we decided to cut the tour short and just adore the sight and move on to the next.

If you’re a fan of the popular TV series in the early 2000 called Meteor Garden, you would probably be entice to paid a visit on this popular destination café called P.S. Bubu Café.

Meteor Garden was so popular on that era that the group F4 have created a fan base in different countries and that includes the Philippines. I, to be honest, spent my afternoon waiting for 5:00pm to hit to be able to watch the TV series back then.

While googling, I actually found out that some fans of the TV series even created a Meteor Garden itinerary. Where in they visited different sites where the shooting of the TV series were held. One of the highlights of the itinerary is a visit at P.S. Bubu Cafe.

P.S. BuBu Café was where Shan Chai and Dao Ming Su first dated.

The coffee shop is actually easy to locate, from Chiang Kai-shek Memorial hall, we walk back to Zhongxiao station, went down to Minquan W Rd. Station then transferred to Tamsui-Xinyl Line (Red Line). After 6 stops, we went down at MRT Shipai Station.

We walk for about 3 minutes gong to Comprehensive market area to ride a bus with numbers #224, #601 or #R19. We went down at Tian Mu bus terminal and walk for about 2 minutes going to the coffee shop.

The place was somehow a quiet district located in Shilin District. It actually felt like I was in Bel Air in Makati city. Most of the bus riders where elderly, and it is actually nice to know that the busses here are readily courteous to wait and be on the elderlies pace.

It was past lunch time when we arrived at the coffee shop. There were no guest on that time. The cafe staff, which I think also the owner of the shop was the only people in the place. We were totally happy for we can pick the best seat that if felt like we rented the whole place.

Aside from being featured in the TV series, this coffee shop became popular because of its unique concept of creating a 70s vibe and displaying old stylish cars as dining tables. Every corner is surely Instagrammable, which ironically isn’t a word existed when this place was created.

We took the seat where Dao Ming Si brought Shan Cai on there first date. Ruth ordered a wrap while I ordered pancakes and coffee. I was not yet hungry then but would really want to try some of the dishes they are offering.

We were having a hard time ordering for I think the staff who tend didn’t still know how to speak English, which is a bit of a disappointing for a destination restaurant like this. Or maybe they didn’t need to effort on that aspect for P.S. Bubu got more local visitors than foreign clients? That I am not sure.

For the price of NT$220-NT$230 per meal, and a so-so kind of taste, I would still recommend for your to visit the place for its aesthetics. The more if your are fan of the TV series Meteor Garden.

On our way back, we pass by some stores at Ximending to buy some pasalubong (gifts). I bought some and actually spare a few money to spent at the airport. But it was a big mistake. Do not do that please, for there are more choices in Ximending at a lower price than at the airport.

For our last dinner, we capped the night with an authentic Taiwanese noodles.

It was 1 in the morning when we arrived in Manila.
