Maginhawa” is a Filipino word which in english could mean “comfortable or convenient“, but for the people of Quezon City, this surpasses that definition. Maginhawa is not just a comfortable place for foodies but is a long street of sprouting holes-in-the-walls, stalls and food destination situated along Sikatuna Village in Quezon City. The long street and other interconnected streets there in has evolve from a quite neighborhood to a commercial place where residents, transforming a small portion of their place to small eateries, accommodate diners that started mostly students from the  nearby universities like UP, Ateneo and Miriam. Heres a simple guide on how to commute going to Maginhawa.

Maginhawa has been creating a buzz recently and just right in time, the online food delivery system,  Food Panda.com, had invited me over to do a day of sumptous food tasting at the differetnt Food Panda accredited restaurant in Sikatuna Village.

Heres how to commute going to Maginhawa.

Katz Diner

Cosy casual dining, Katz Diner is a laid back place that offers delicious Filipino cuisine and a lists of all-day breakfast. Located not directly in Maginhawa, but in its branching street called Malingap, Katz Diner is easy to identify with its very striking orange logo.

Katz Diner is a small place that could accommodate 30-40 poeple. If your bringing a car, it would be just fine for Katz Diner got 2 parking spaces at front.

Katz Diner got simple interiors with a few posters in some corners, a small open kitchen were diners can actually see the preparation of the ordered foods.

Opened April of this year (2014), Katz Diner started serving assorted teas and coffees. We had the pleasure of meeting Chef Kat Oronce who owns that place. Chef Kat was too busy preparing and plating the food when we arrive, but it was welcoming to feel how her family members accommodate us to the place.

Lets now start checking their foods.

First serve was the Grilled Pork Steak. The tender slices of pork were serve along with sunny side-up, tomatoes and cucumber on the side. Marinated till it got its sweet taste, the Grilled pork steak could perfectly eaten with vinegar with chilli, just how  I like it.

The Roast Pork Belly could be one of my early favorites, served with white rice, sunny side up egg, mashed sweet potatoes, gravy and chimichurri sauce.

Katz Diners also specializes on drinks like this Green Tea Yakult and other fruity flavored iced teas and milk teas. Its a perfect anti-umay beverage.

Lastly serve was this gooey, chocolatey Lava Cake that perfectly end up our brunch. It was created for diners who tasted it would definitely feel a separation anxiety over it. Will surely be back to taste this again. On your visit don’t forget to bring atleast 300-400 pesos per head, thats for your rice meal or pasta and drinks.
